Gyrating Rocket is coming to the Birmingham Film Festival

This weekend is a very exciting one for us (and for me a nervous one)! As Gyrating Rocket will have its world premiere at the Birmingham Film Awards. Written by Sheila Evans, who co-directed with me, the story of four girls on a night out, which gets interrupted by the Gyrating Rocket himself (or should that be herself!), was filmed back in October 2014, and we wanted to make sure it was right before it got out there.

Made up of a wonderful cast and crew, the experience of filming this in Birmingham City Centre, was a joy. We spent weeks rehearsing the short, before we landed on location at The Lamp Tavern, and filmed the short in one complete day, all complete with witty one-liners, drag artists, Vimto doubling for wine (I’d have preferred the latter!), as well as singing and dancing and the odd display of butchness!

The shoot went fantastic, and filming was a complete joy. Sheila’s script was a joy to read and I really have wanted to start directing other people’s ideas recently, just to challenge myself and expand my scope a little more as a director (this was the case also with Charles O’Neill’s Clone, which will be out next year!).

Full of laughs-a-plenty, we’re very much hoping that everyone else feels the same way too, when the film premieres this Sunday at the Birmingham Film Festival. Some of the cast and crew will be in attendance, so if you are planning a trip to the festival, come and say hello!

Lots of fun and we’re now looking forward to coming back for a second film in the series! Yes, a sequel is on the way!
